Best Selling Sunshine Coast Author Introduces her Latest Adventure Novel to Capture the Imagination of Readers Worldwide
Local Sunshine Coast romantic suspense author, Beth Prentice, is about to launch her next novel, Deadly Wipeout. Based on extraordinary pre-sales, this one promises to be yet another best-seller for her bookshelf.
Ms Prentice surprised herself and her family when she attracted the attention of a reputable American publisher, after she had already self-published her first two books and, like many other aspiring authors, had her submissions turned away by local publishers.
The very start of her journey began when Ms Prentice self-published her first best-selling title, It Started with a House, in 2012. The following year, she self-published another novel, It Started with Theo and after that, a sequel to her debut novel, which she named Give Murder a Hand.
According to Ms Prentice, high profile USA publisher, Gemma Halliday Publishing, who took her 2nd novel on board and renamed it Killer Unleashed last year in May. The company also swiftly accepted Ms Prentice’s manuscript titled Invitation to Murder, publishing it in May this year, and Deadly Wipeout is the newest published title, due next month.
“I was thoroughly honoured to have been accepted as one of Gemma Halliday Publishing’s authors, resulting in strong sales and recognition in the United States. Gemma is someone within the industry that I admire because she is not only a publisher, but she’s also a New York Times and USA Today best-selling author. She knows what to do and how to do it, and she’s awesome to work with! I can never thank her enough for the opportunity she has given me,” Ms Prentice said.
All of Ms Prentice’s titles, except for the latest, are set in a fictional Australian town called Westport. Deadly Wipeout is set in Kauai, Hawaii, and forms part of a multi-author series called Aloha Lagoon. Notably, this particular title sits alongside USA Today Best-selling authors in the series, including Leslie Langtry, Dane McCaslin and Mary Jo Burke, which partly accounts for her tremendous recognition that has resulted in Ms Prentice achieving a number 8 Best-selling spot on Amazon for pre-sales.
In her latest book, also belonging to the romantic suspense/chick lit genre, Ms Prentice introduces readers to protagonist, Samantha Reynolds, a young woman who hoped that moving to the resort town of Aloha Lagoon would be the start of an exciting new life. With few options, she accepts a job as a children’s surfing instructor at the Aloha Lagoon Resort. And then the adventure begins – involving two dead bodies, two unexpected inheritances, and one hot bartender! Samantha just needs to figure out why her family is involved, control a group of preadolescent kids, keep her mom and brother out of jail, and get the hot bartender to notice her.
Ms Prentice said she enjoyed the setting change for her latest book – from Australia to Hawaii – given her younger life as a nomad of the world. She moved from her birth place in Manchester, England, across the world 13 times in only 14 years before settling on the Sunshine Coast at the age of 30.
“My mum just couldn’t settle in one place. She tells everyone that we have Gypsy blood. I did learn a lot from it though. I went to 13 different schools; naturally I have quite a shy personality, but the moving taught me to open up to people you don’t know. I also learned to never discount anyone, because you just don’t know who could be your new best friend.”
Ms Prentice has two adult children, a “patient” husband and a menagerie of pets, including dogs, cats and fish. She feels that the Sunshine Coast is the perfect place for a writer to live, as the proximity to nature inspires her imagination. Her next goal is to partner with an Australian publisher to bring her next novel to life.
“The one I am currently working on is set in Australia again, and is written specifically for an Australian audience. It’s a very special one, and would be wonderful to work with a local publisher, and ultimately see this one on shelves in book stores down under.”
